Gaining momentum

So I've been back in Anacortes for while; since August 15th actually. I'm in town until Sept 23rd, and have made some great progress on this trip.

Lots of details I could dive into, however the big news is that Improbable has been moved inside at Jim's Betts's shop (https://www.bettsboats.com/).

This is a milestone, which will enable speeding things up, especially since I'll be hiring the help (as much as I can afford) of Jim's very talented crew, on various aspects of the project. Lots to do!

A travellift can't fit into the big doors of Building 1 at Jim's. But that's no problem; they quickly modified a rolling platform they have; adding jackstands that were welded into place after some quick measurements. The boat was lifted up by some very handy gantries, the custom rolling cart was slid underneath, and soon the boat was rolled right into the shop on her temporary custom skateboard.

How about that? Soon afterwards another classic speedster was parked next to Improbable; a Moore 24. I raced Moore 24's back in my younger days in Santa Cruz, and in the Bay Area. Great little boats! This one will be spiffed up by Jim's team, as are several other lucky yachts that are passing through. Although most spend much less time lingering around than Project Improbable...;-)

We plan to change all that; however it's still going to be a couple years before we hit the water again. Baby steps....

For instance, getting the lifeline stanchions mounted:

I've been working on getting the deck hardware plan organized...it's always more complicated than you might think. But it's fun to visualize how it all will work, and keep inching towards that vision.

After heading back to Maine on the 23rd, I'll be going to the IBEX marine trade show in Tampa Oct 5-9, where we'll be showing off a hot new product; the UPI alternators by American Power Systems, Inc. We're so exited about these that we've entered the UPI into the IBEX Innovation Awards. Hopefully they'll get the attention they deserve!

Then back to Maine, and later in Oct. back to Anacortes to keep the momentum going on Project Improbable.

Until the next report, smooth seas

Bruce
